Our great nation’s birthday is fast approaching and many of us will celebrate with BBQs and potlucks – which are all too often an excuse to indulge. But, as we tell our clients, you do not have to abandon your health and fitness goals to enjoy a festive meal. We talked a little bit about that last week in our summer survival guide. Today we bring you three healthy and patriotic recipe ideas, perfect for a Canada Day potluck.

Three Healthy Recipes for Canada Day

1. Caprese salad

We are entering the months of wonderful, fresh, and local produce. Why not celebrate with a salad that screams summer and represents the colours of our great country’s flag? Use good quality cheese and the freshest tomatoes you can find.

2. Banana Strawberry Fruit kabobs

This is a great snack or dessert, especially if you’ll be celebrating with kids! Alternate strawberries and banana pieces on a skewers. A fun, festive, and EASY healthy treat.

3. A watermelon Cake

For dessert, why not trade in a high-calorie regular cake for a cool and refreshing watermelon cake. Red in the middle, with a white whipped cream icing make it perfectly patriotic – bonus points for a strawberry maple leaf on the top.
